A woman has in the early pregnancy (pregnancy week 1-2) ingested antibiotics because of sinusitis.

Fråga: A woman has in the early pregnancy (pregnancy week 1-2) ingested antibiotics because of sinusitis. The first day she began with penicillin medication (Kåvepenin), 1gx2. After receiving the answer of the culture, amoxicillin treatment was started in a relatively low dose (750 mg per day). The following day she increased the dose three times (2250 mg per day) by mistake instead of two times (1500 mg per day). This dose (2250 mg per day) continued for totally two days and was thereafter decreased to 1500 mg per day for another six days.

Is there a risk of teratogenicity?

Sammanfattning: We have had similar questions concerning congenital defects and amoxicillin treatment during pregnancy (1-2). A follow up Medline search has revealed no additional information. According to Briggs 1994 (3), there are no reports linking amoxicillin use to congenital defects. According to Briggs amoxicillin has (3) also been used as a single three gram dose to treat bacteriuria in pregnancy without causing fetal harm. The manufacturer (4) had no additional information.
